Next: Romantic suspense titled HOMETOWN HEARTACHE, due out in February

Social media: Through social media I’ve met a whole slew of other writers and they are some of the nicest people going, as proven by you. A lot of work went into this post, for someone you’ve never met. That’s pretty incredible!

Great covers: Thank you! I really admire my cover artist, Steven Novak (www.novakillustration.com). We work closely together when creating a cover. I give him an idea of what I’m looking for, sometimes even include images. He sends back a cover and we work from there. I did actually get my readers involved in my latest cover. I wanted something on the cover for BLACKOUT to represent apartments, as a lot of the scenes take place in New York City. I couldn’t find any images I liked online, so I went out to an old building in town and took shots that I had readers vote on. Their favorite, and mine, ended up on the cover, a shot from the top of a staircase looking down through the middle.

Great collection trailer: I thank you, and my kids thank you. Three out of four of my kids did trailers for me. I basically told them what I wanted, and they handled the technical side. Some of their creativity comes out in them, too. To view trailer, Click here.

Bundling a series of novels: Series are very popular, especially with romance readers, who are some of the most voracious readers out there. I only have one true series (which follows one set of characters) and the rest are collections, bundled by theme only. The idea is that if a reader likes one book in the collection, they might enjoy the others as well.

Giveaways: I like giving away the first book in a series or collection. That way I can entice a reader into wanting more, hopefully. Amazon makes you jump through a lot of hoops to get your book to free. I guess I can’t blame them. They’re getting no profit from that book. However, if it increases the profit in the other books, then it is a worthwhile strategy for both me and the retailer.

Reader list: With the advent of self-publishing, there is a glut of books on the market. That means a writer has to work even harder to get their name out there. I spend as much time as possible doing that, without taking too much time away from my writing, as that is what it is all really about to begin with.

Great blog: Well, I’ll tell you what, I kind of got a running start at this thing. I wrote twelve novels before I even started thinking about publishing. And as far as the blog, putting a blog post together doesn’t take as much time now as it once did. I’ve got the swing of it

Fashionation with Mystery Book 2

Cynthia St-Pierre & Melodie Campbell
AVAILABLE at Amazon
Barnes and Noble
KOBO

Who is the dead woman at the bottom of the stairs?

When Weather Network star Gina Monroe arrives in Black Currant Bay for her wedding shower, all is bliss. But happiness turns to horror when Gina and close friend Becki find the hostess with her head bashed in.

Strange things come to light when Gina and Becki are asked to sort through the dead woman’s belongings. Just who was this woman? And why did frumpy Louisa have a closet full of vintage couturier clothes?

As the investigation continues, the danger increases. Arson reveals the hiding place of a fabulous sapphire necklace, which leads to more questions and ramps up the risk for Gina and Becki. A killer is determined to keep the identity of the dead woman a secret—even if it means killing again.

Excerpt from A Killer Necklace

Chapter 1

Shivering is an involuntary physical reaction to temperature. Same with the sweat on my forehead. Humidity.

Tony tried to push down all thoughts that were extraneous to the job at hand—finding Gina.

Entering the one large room, dimly lit by two tiny windows set high in the concrete walls, he flipped the switch on the wall to his left. The glare of bare fluorescents created more contrast, is all. Brighter lights. Deeper shadows.

Despite his training, his heart pumped like he was running uphill.

He always overcame fear with preparation, with experience. But this wasn’t fear; this was irrational terror, on behalf of someone he loved more than life itself.

Gina.

She had been investigating a murder. The body of a woman found in a basement, like this one. Now Gina had been forcibly taken.

He tried to convince himself that he had the strength, the training to deal with whatever he found.

Then he stepped forward.

CODE NAME:GYPSY MOTH just released! "a worthy tribute to Douglas Adams"

THE GODDAUGHTER'S REVENGE has won the 2014 DERRINGER AWARD for crime novella and the 2014 ARTHUR ELLIS AWARD in Canada!

Billed as Canada's "Queen of Comedy" by the Toronto Sun (Jan. 5 2014,) Melodie Campbell achieved a personal best when Library Digest compared her to Janet Evanovich.

Winner of nine awards, including the Derringer (US) and Arthur Ellis (Canada) for THE GODDAUGHTER'S REVENGE, Melodie got her start writing comedy. In 1999, she opened the Canadian Humour Conference. So it's no surprise her fiction has been described by editors and reviewers as "wacky" and "laugh-out-loud funny."

Melodie has over 200 publications, 100 comedy credits, 40 short stories, and seven novels.

The Goddaughter, a comic crime caper, received the following review from Library Journal: "Campbell's comic caper is just right for Janet Evanovich fans. Wacky family connections and snappy dialogue make it impossible not to laugh." Library Journal, Sept. 2012

His home life was chaotic, riddled with his parents' drug use and unconventional ways of educating; dyslexia made academic learning a seemingly insurmountable challenge; and his identity was beyond confusing--was he black because he felt black or white because he looked white?

Devin knew one thing: he needed to escape his environment and get into college, beyond which he believed the world would open up to him.

His memoir, Contrast, is his gift back to those who are looking for some inspiration and passion to move forward, not look back. A great life is measured by ones progress not perfection!
