SPOTLIGHT Questions and Answers with the Author
First things first. Do you have another book on the horizon? Can you tell us the timeline for its release and give us a little tease?
My next book should be ready for release by July 2014. In this book I explore the concepts of resilience and grit, how these two items are a skill set necessary to thrive in today’s unstable home and work environments and how to develop them as skill sets. My personal story of failure and recovery is the motivating factor for this book.
How important have your social media relationships been? Do you see a carry over to your success?
While I continue to swim in the social media stream, it has contributed very little – if anything- to my success.
You do a lot of workshops and personal appearances. Is your book on display at these events? When and where is the next place we can see you? Where can we keep up with your workshops and personal appearances online?
Lol – my book travels with me wherever I go! The best way to track my speaking engagements is on my website:
trainingeverydayleaders.com or to follow me on Twitter.
You have created a great YouTube video. (See link above.) Do you know how much impact it has had on your book’s success? Tell us about the process that you used to create your videos? They look very professional.
The videos have had little impact on book sales but are great for maintaining current clients and influencing potential clients to use my services. The videos are all based on Paul’s Points of the Day – original bits of accumulated wisdom based on my experience – sent out to my clients and posted on my website and on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter each morning after my first cup of Starbucks. Since I am technically inept and realize the need to have everything I present to the public to reflect my brand in the most positive way possible, I use a professional videographer. We shoot 20 Points of the Day – all between 2 and 3 minutes – in a single shoot.
Between your book writing, blogging, marketing, your business, family and all the other things that can get in your way, how do you manage your time? Do you have a set schedule or do your sort of play it by ear?
am a geek when it comes to time management – I have a very detailed daily “to do list” and a “not to do list” that keeps me from saying yes to projects that I should not engage in. And thanks to Tony Schwartz and his work on energy management, I have become even more productive as I tie reenergizing activities – how I exercise, eat, drink, nap and interact with people throughout the day – to time management. High level performance requires both time and energy management and I constantly am working to be better at both.
Has the advent of ebooks changed anything in your writing, your marketing and the relationship with your readers?
So far ebooks have not impacted me or my writing. I often think about using that method to get my messages out but have not acted to do so. Another item to put on my to-do list!
You have a great blog. You do a great job providing useful information to business leaders. What is your blog’s primary goal?
The purpose of any of my writing or speaking, including the blog, and my coaching is to share my thoughts and ideas about how to be better individually and organizational. What good is accumulating decades of information, knowledge and experience if I can’t share it with others to their benefit?
Have you considered using Audio Books to broaden your audience?
Another item for my “to-do list”! Yes I have, but again I have taken no action on what is an excellent idea.
How important are your Podcasts to your overall marketing scheme? Should authors at least take a look at this promotion opportunity?
I have used podcasts very little to market my services. And, yes, authors – including me- should use audiobooks as a marketing tools. My “to-do list” just keeps getting longer!
